NIFS-UWM Joint Workshop on High-Resolution Science for "Micro-Collective Phenomena"
Meeting Room 1, Administration Building 4F
National Institute for Fusion Science
A joint workshop between National Institute for Fusion Science (NIFS) and the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UWM) will be hosted by NIFS in the first week of August 2025.
Motivated by challenges in fusion science, the workshop will explore diverse approaches to understanding and controlling macroscopic systems involving microscopic degrees of freedom.
We welcome interdisciplinary contributions beyond fusion—such as from astrophysics and materials science—and look forward to active discussions and networking opportunities. We are planning the following sessions and events:
- Oral presentation sessions
- NIFS Tour (LHD, CHD, ...)
- Networking & Research showcase (poster presentation)
("Micro-collective phenomena" is the main research theme of the post-LHD project of NIFS listed in the Roadmap 2023.)
(本ワークショップは、NIFS国際研究集会支援制度による支援のもと、「第1回NIFSワークショップ」として開催します。)
Scopes
- NIFS-UWM Task Agreement topics
- Thomson scattering measurement system
- Forward modelling and synthetic diagnostics
- 3-D plasma physics and optimization
- Plasma dynamics at abrupt events
- Fusion Science & Interdisciplinary Research
- University Collaborations
- Strategic planning
Workshop Documentation
We will make a document including participants list, presentation abstract, summary of discussions, and future prospects obtained during the workshop. The document will be uploaded to the open access NIFS repository.
